I was quoted in this article:

Prakash Advani of Canonical said, “It is unlikely that Oracle will be allowed to close down the open source version of MySQL. The open source community had submitted suggestions to the European Union commission that looked into the Oracle-Sun acquisition which specifically aimed at removing the possibility of such an event taking place. However, in case something like this does happen, developers can always create forks of MySQL.”

What is Positive affirmations?

Its a positive thought that you say/write/think.

How do I create one?

  • It has be present tense.
  • It has to be positive.
  • It has to be personal.
  • It has to be specific.

Why present tense?

Because you want to start working on it right away, you want to send a message to your inner conciousness that thats want you want to focus your energy on.

Does it work?

Yes it does, Most successful people do it, those who tell you that they don’t do it, don’t want you to know.

Scott Adam of Dilbert fame, did it! He wrote his goal 15 times a day.

I’ve often written about my own experiences with affirmations, the practice of writing your goals 15 times a day. It seems to work much of the time, at least in my experience, but presumably not because of any magic. At least one probable explanation for its perceived effectiveness is that focusing on goals changes the person who is doing the focusing.

Read his blog post if you want to know more.

How often do I do it?

Everyday preferablly, multiple times a day if need be.

Example of usage:

If you always think you are poor, you have no money, its not going to help. Its best to do a positive affirmation like this.

I am rich. I have all the money that I need. New sources of income open up each day.

To be specific, you can say: I am rich by xyz date.

Don’t say: I want to be rich, cause affirmation has to to present tense..

See this site for examples of positive affirmations and to manage your affirmations.

People often send large photos via email. These file sizes are usually large, typically a few megabytes because they are taken from multi-megapixel camera. The more the megapixel, the larger the file size.

I prefer to reduce the image size before I email or post on the web, these file sizes are small (couple of 100 kilobytes) and typically occupy 10 percent the disk space of those taken directly from your digital camera. They are also easier to send/forward and you can send many of them at once.

I found a very nifty plugin for Nautilus called Nautilus image converter. Nautilus is the default file manager on Gnome (Linux/Unix Window Manager). Under Ubuntu, startup synaptic and look for nautilus-image-converter.

After installation, you need to either logout or re-start your PC for it to take effect.

Once loaded, you just need to right click on the image/s and resize them. You can select one or multiple files. By default your original image is not replaced, new image is created with the name: filename.resized.jpg (or whatever is the file type)

You can also replace your original image if you like and rotate them.

For those who prefer command line, you can install this package called imagemagick and use this tool called mogrify.

I have been using Thunderbird 2 for more than 2 years now, I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 3 and found it very well designed. Here is what I liked:

  • Has an attachment reminder, so if you write “please see the attached… ” and then forgot to attach, it reminds you. Neat!
  • Tabbed emails. Used to tabbed browsing? welcome to tabbed email. Allows you to open emails and mail folders into different tabs.
  • Powerful search. You can type a search string, and it will find that string in inbox, sent box, subject. This is quite useful if you are looking for something but don’t know where it could be.
  • It also has smart folders and and archive folders.
  • Addon manager to manage all your addons.

Here is a complete list of features.
