Why not also consider the populations of all the cities listed above ? The US equicalent of what one would consider as suburbs, expanded cities in India, are independent townships with their own independent city governments. What you might want to do is consider the metropolitan areas. Just as an example city of Chicago is only 72 blocks east-west but the connected metro area goes beyond 60-70 miles further west !.
