Mobile Phones Comparison: Nokia 6230i, SonyEricsson K750i, Motorola L7 and Samsung X700

A friend of mine was comparing all the phones, criteria was the phone should have the latest bells and whistles while it should be within an affordable Price Range: Indian Rupees 10-15,000 (US$250-300)

All phones have Bluetooth, MP3 and are CandyBar (Non-Clamshell) Style.

Here is a comparison:

Pros: Standard memory, phone can be used as a USB Storage device, Supports EDGE, FM. Good camera and sound, FM. Standard Memory, Better Screen Resolution, Best looking. Standard Memory, Better Screen Resolution, Supports EDGE, FM.
Cons: Phone needs to be opened to changed the memory. Gets heated up while talking, old SMS needs to be maually deleted. Proprietary Memory, No EDGE Support, No Push2Talk, No repeat function in calendar events, Most expensive of the lot. No FM, No EDGE Support, Low resolution Camera, No Push2Talk.

Notes:

EDGE: Is an upgrade to GRPS providing highspeed data connectivity, depends on service availability in your region.
Push2Talk availability also depends upon your service provider and hasn’t yet become very popular.
Hot swappable Memory allows memory to be changed, without opening the phone.

Suggestions:

The Best value for money is the Samsung X700, has most of the desired features at a decent price.

If you want better quality camera and willing to spend a little more then SonyEricsson K750i is an option.

L7 is the best and sleekest looking one, so if looks matters to you, its a good one. It can also be charged using a standard USB cable.

Nokia 6230i is a decent phone for people who are already using Nokia and don’t want to move out.

    I use Sony Erricson K750i and has been having a wonderful experience. While the camera and sound are great, I also find its phone book, business card, fast access shortcuts and java games a great feature. Nevertheless for me the K750i is not only a mobile but

    “ipod” – great music and storage space for storing my favourite songs
    “pen drive ” – I can carry my data files and transfer through Irda / bluetooth
    “Digital Camera” / Camcorder

    I recently bought the Samsung X700, here is my feedback:

    Pros

    1. Quick button for going to Quiet Mode.
    2. Keypad will autolock irrespective of which menu u are in rather than locking only if u exit all menus.
    3. Home screen can be set to display Time, Date and calender for that month.
    4. Keypad light can be customised to display only during hours specified by you – for eg display from 6pm to 6.am.
    5. Backlight dims partially before going to autokey pad lock.
    6. Pressing any key during lock brings up a partial backlight enabling you to see time or date.
    7. Fonts are quite large- can be set to huge size.
    8. Excellent sound quality – Inbuilt voice clarity technology is good and can be turned on/off.
    9. Music player is very customizable.
    10. FM radio works as clock radio – can be set to turn on at any time.
    11. Headset cover is the best available on any model – it works like a sliding door.
    12. Camera – OK, clarity was ok and zoom was good.
    13. Dialing display is customizable – even the background color can be set which let one see the number being typed very clearly.
    14. When u have multiple choices in a menu, pressing the serial no. of your choice takes u there directly.
    15. Build quality – very good, the battery also doubles up as a back cover and unlike Nokia can be easily removed and fitted.
    16. Slot for easily inserting SIM card – rather than having to lift some flimsy cover.
    17. Memory card slips in easily and warns if being removed.
    18. Mini SD memory is quite common and can also be used in your camera or PDA using the included adaptor.
      Product packing quality – good.
    19. The USB data cable comes with the phone and has a warning notice attached to it reminding you not to insert it into the computer before installing the driver and software.
    20. The Data and the charger cable have an arrow indicating direction in which to insert preventing anyone from
      inserting it upside down.
    21. Software included is the best available. Beautiful GUI, smooth installation and syncronisation with outlook.

    Cons

    1. Headset made in China, build is not very good compared to rest of phone.
    2. Headset port design could have been USB and common for a charger just as in the Motorola L7.
    3. Headset does not change FM channels – BAD!!!
    4. Charger point cover could break as it is a little thin.
    5. Charger could have been slimmer.
    6. No option to rearrange menu order as in case of Motorola L7.
    7. If u are not a GPRS subscriber, then the “i” button occupies the phone if pressed by mistake, Ideally it should have been the Menu button.

    Hi,
    Can any one help me, I have a Motorola L7, what I would like to find out is, is it possible to have the time displayed on the screen when the phone is in stand by mode. The sony ericsson K750i shows the time when that is in standy by mode.

    well i am using x700 for last 3 months…………..so let me say……………

    for:

    picture quality of the camera is arguably the best in 1.3 mp range
    outstanding clarity of mp3 player
    microsd slot
    nice and soft keypad
    simply the most outstanding screen display of the lot given above

    against

    no VIRTUAL MACHINE for playing java games or downloaded application???!!!
    ……………..that is what i found when i checked in at the samsung website………..i cannot download or play any of my favourite java games on this phone and this is very frustrating………even the crappiest nokia or sony ericsson models support downloadable gmaes…………well other websites about this phone say that this phone has java midp 2 enabled and also i do have 3 good java games installed in my phone …………but right now i am very confused about the capabilities of this phone

    Can someone tell me, how can I use My 6681 on Windows 98. The PC Suite made for this is specifically for XP & 2000, I wish to use my phone as pen drive but since at someplace we don’t have XP, the phone is not recongnized, any ideas ?

    I recently bought a 1 GB memory stick for my K750i, and my world’s changed. I listen to heaps of mp3’s and even watch mp4 videos, though the screen is kinda small but it’s still cool.

    Well, i recently bought samsung X 700 and my feedback is same as of Ramnath Shenoy but i cannot find any option of sending or receivng Business card. If there is no such option then isn’t it bad…for me yes it is

    While typing text messages, say we have made a mistake. How do we come back to the message and make changes…do we have to delete the whole word and retype them correctly or is there an alternative?
